"a state purchasing agent you've never heard of autographed a Department of General Services purchase order for $1,237,030.37 to buy 50 Toyota Priuses that then sat idle on the top floor of a state parking garage"

but you don't care because you're reposting some nonsense you read on Kos about the Daily Show.

  • I've always had lots or respect for the SacBee, they tend to tell it like it is most of the time, unlike a lot of other "news" media. But as was mentioned in the comments section of the story, the state "worker" didn't just decide on his own to do this, there was a bureaucrat somewhere making the decisions, and I daresay it was with the full faith and backing of the legislature. It would really be interesting to see some hard hitting investigative reporting on something like this, following the trail to where the buck stops.

Also in the comments section, there was some discussion about a whistleblower website for state employees to report such nonsense. And the discussion went to how any state worker that used this site from his government workstation could be tracked down for retribution. Even if the worker used his computer at home, he could be tracked down by his ISP number, etc. They were bemoaning the fact that it was impossible to do anything on the internet anonymously. Are all the state workers stupid? If you want to post anything anonymously on the internet, all you have to do is go a library and use the computer there.
