Re: IKEA backs out of Russia
Fri, July 3, 2009 - 10:21 PMThey are only withdrawing from the Samara project, but what a loss. . .sounds like quite a shopping center. They have several other properties. The use of the term "Ikea Generation" caught my attention.
>The retailer has become such an icon of Russia's boom that today's yuppies are called "the Ikea Generation."
I wonder where htat ccame from. .
To label things the_______ generation is such an American phenomenon, and of course Spiegel is German. . .I wonder if someone came up with this name while drinking a pepsi. Pepsi was of course one of the first american products to penetrate the Russian market. . -

I read about this a week ago in another periodical. and the Samara project was huge. they are also suspending new projects which is also huge. IKEA was screwed from the start because the Swedes just don't know how to play ball.
keep your eyes on other companies that invest in Russia. for instance Conoco Phillips. should be interesting. and there is Siemens with the agreement to build nuclear plants. should be interesting. -

Fri, July 3, 2009 - 10:58 PMyeah, I'm not a big fan of our former enemies such as they are. . .I think that Russia DID need a strongman to replace Yeltsin, too bad they got the one they did. . .probably not much selection.
I think both Russia and China will do all they can to bring us down, while staying below the radar. . .the US is so inept in general at the great game. . .I wish it weren't true, but it is. . -

China and Russia are more natural enemies. it's just a matter of time before they start butting heads.
and yes. we are complete shitheads when it comes to foreign policy. I think it was Pakistan that labeled us as the world's worst ally. for all Russia's problems they proved that they stick to their obligations (e.g. Serbia).
